Once Upon A Time….

I drank Red Bull before going into the Examination Hall

It is going to be a pretty much short story today. But quite a knowledgeable one for the kids/adults burning the midnight oil around. As we all know, this time period is quite susceptible to find night owls. Ending of the financial year, practical files to complete, preparation for an important exam, working hard for appraisal next month; reasons are endless, the way is one.

We all have stayed late at night at least once by now as we talk. I have one question for all you night owls. Have you ever had something just to keep you staying up late that night?!

Starbucks Coffee…..or…..Red Bull……..Choose!

Well, I’m known to try bizarre things at crucial times and this time too, it’s no disappointment. I had Redbull just before my physics exam was going to commence. And just for the record, I didn’t do quite well in the exam. Was it a good decision to drink it before the exam just to be awake?!

People regard it as an all-time waking-up drink. You won’t sleep after you drink this at all. Some regard it as a better option than coffee. Be it a long lecture, driving at night, late-night work; Red Bull literally gave you wings. I wanted these wings too, not to fly away though.

The night before my IIT Entrance Examination, I had to wake up quite late to prepare for one of the toughest exams in the world. After studying for some time, I felt sleepy and thereby decided to prepare a coffee because it was going to be a long late-night party for me ahead. I woke up to a little dizziness the next morning.

Redbull gives you wings!

IIT Examination is conducted in three phases; Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. One at a time. ‘GNDEC Ludhiana’ was my examination center then. After I came out of the examination hall attempting the chemistry phase, I felt quite dizzy and nauseated. I had no access to coffee at that time. And I needed real refreshment and something to keep me awake for 2 hours at least. Looking at the canteen, I only saw Redbull as an option in front of me.

Redbull contains caffeine. And caffeine tends to increase metabolism by an enormous 13%. We are conditioned into thinking that coffee is a night owl’s drink because it contains caffeine that keeps the body awake in any situation. Ever tried Redbull instead?!

“Boring lecture, Long working night?! I got you covered.”

— Redbull

Red Bull surely is a perfect commodity to stay awake for quite a long time. Sometimes, it even surpasses the option over coffee, such dominating is their need in the market. But does it really support you the way it should?! They bear their side effects too. Excess to caffeine can cause nausea, vomiting, inability to sleep, or even diarrhea. In my case, I think it did worse. It elevated my sleepiness. I don’t remember much from that moment, but in general, I couldn’t reach a proper conclusion to any answer, even in my Mathematics exam phase.

Fast Forward to Today: All I remember is that although I did fairly well in my exam, I didn’t have enough to qualify for IIT. That thought being in mind, I never had Redbull ever since. Not every time it’s going to happen that I don’t have access to coffee. Right guys?!

What do you think happened that day?! Did it really hamper my brain?!
